Start on the SR-1. Import forward when each game ends. Bring Down the Sky can wait until after the Citadel, but do it before Ilos. Virmire is the mission that kills either Ashley or Kaidan and can kill Wrex. Those two flags are the ones Mass Effect 2 and 3 actually read.

On October 21, 2026, EA said early development on the next Mass Effect would not continue and that BioWare's Edmonton studio would close. The campaigns you can finish are Legendary Edition and Andromeda. A Prime Video series was still reported in development the same week. It is not a game, and it does not change a trilogy import.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition is the single-player trilogy in one launcher: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3, plus the story DLC BioWare could still ship. It came out on May 14, 2021, for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and it runs on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles by backward compatibility. There is no separate native next-gen edition.

The useful way to play it is in order, importing the same Shepard. A Genesis comic can stand in for a skipped game. It sets a few famous flags and throws the rest away. Virmire and Wrex are the flags people restart over.

What is in the box

EA's launch description is 'single-player base content and over 40 DLC,' remastered and aimed at 4K. The story additions players actually notice are Bring Down the Sky, Zaeed, Kasumi, Lair of the Shadow Broker, Overlord, Arrival, From Ashes, Leviathan, Omega, Citadel, and the Extended Cut. Genesis and Genesis 2 are the skip comics. Weapon and armor packs from the original releases are in the same box, which is why guns like the Locust and the Geth Plasma Shotgun are not separate store pages anymore.

Pinnacle Station is not included. Mass Effect 3's multiplayer is not included. Galactic Readiness, the multiplier that used to turn a full war-asset bank into half an ending, is gone with it. In this edition the terminal shows war assets at full value, and the ending table was rebuilt around those totals.

One Shepard, three games

Mass Effect 1 still uses heat weapons and a Charm skill. Mass Effect 2 switches to thermal clips, locks weapons by class, and ends on the suicide mission. Mass Effect 3 lets every class hold every gun, then taxes power cooldown by weight, and collapses paragon and renegade into one reputation bar. You may pick a new class at each import. The face, the name, and the dead stay.

The default female Shepard face from Mass Effect 3 is the default in all three games in this edition, so a trilogy no longer changes her face at the sequel unless you edit it.

Questions the codex gets

Can I start with Mass Effect 2 or 3?

Yes. Genesis and Genesis 2 record a short version of the skipped choices. Play from the first game if you want Wrex, the Virmire survivor, and the suicide-mission dead to be people you actually kept alive.

Is Pinnacle Station in Legendary Edition?

No. It is missing from the included-content list announced with the collection. Do not hunt the galaxy map for it.

Is there a new Mass Effect to wait for?

As of October 21, 2026, EA stopped early development on the next Mass Effect and is closing BioWare. The games you can finish are this trilogy and Andromeda. A television series was still reported in development; it does not add a campaign.

What are the PC requirements?

64-bit Windows 10, an Intel Core i5-3570 or AMD FX-8350, 8 GB of RAM, a GTX 760 or Radeon 7970 / R9 280X with 2 GB of video memory, DirectX 11, and 120 GB of disk. That is the minimum on the EA and Steam listings.
